Texas and Staten Island. The proximity in time of these two events is rather disturbing. Let's hope it's just an unfortunate coincidence.

BBC hours ahead of CNN

I first noticed the story about the Texas oil refinery explosion on the BBC site. It was hours before the story showed up on the CNN site.

I'm not at all surprised. Those are two of the most easily accessible targets that Maxim had listed as the "next most likely terrorist targets" in their magazine last month. It was a huge, colorful article outlining just how vulnerable these spots were, how easy it would be to hit them, and the kind of disaster they'd cause if the hits were successful. I figured it would be less than a month before some nutjob(s) got it into their heads to take Maxim up on their blatant invitation. Luckily these two seem to be pretty amateur.
