Friday found us going north to Marin City to pick up LA's old friend AF. from there we went further north to Muir Woods National Monument for a day of hiking.
Our route in Muir Woods was a lot of fun, but tiring. We took the Hillside Trail to where it met Ben Johnson Trail and then Dipsea trail - basically this trail, only we did it counter-clockwise instead of clockwise. Basically seven Km around with a 1000 foot elevation change. not quite a scramble up, but there were numerous portions where the trail was sufficiently steep they had to put in stairs.
Now for lot's of nature pictures:

Here we see John Muir, aka Grizzly Adams. Actually, that's unfair to both men since they're appreciation of nature took decidedly different turns. Adams caught animals for circuses and zoos. Muir was one of the founders of the Sierra Club. Anyway, this was taken at the main park building where I bought this trip's magnet.

Endor was nicer before all the tourists. Muir Woods was one of the spots they used for the forest moon of Endor when filming Return of the Jedi. You can see why.

Yep. That's a big damn tree.

Another shot of the forest. About half the hike was scenes like this. Basically, the north side of the mountain we walked around.

Not all of the sights were grand vistas and giant trees. I almost stepped on this little beasty. He's about two inches long.

And these were pretty little flowers. No idea what they are.

Once you get to the very top, you're greeted by this wonderful meadow, and completely different species of trees. Also it's downhill, so there's also physical joy, not just spiritual.

Finally, back at the bottom you cross Redwood creek.
We then drove to Muir Beach which was some distance away. The beach has a fairly beautiful (and obviously affluent) community to it's north.

The residences of Muir Beach. Thinking of making it a setting in the next iteration of my game, just because.

Nobody lives to the south - that would be gauche.
Finally we drove back to San Francisco, stopping in Sausolito to have some decent Mexican food at Saylor's.
