Woke up late and not at all hung over due to me pounding back a couple ibuprofen and half a litre of water in the middle of the night. Managed to pack my stuff into the backpack and checked out of the wonderful Burrard Inn. Would I go back? Maybe if I got a similar deal (40% off and two $50 gift certificates for decent restaurants), but it's too rich for my cheap ass normally.

I dropped off my luggage and suddenly had several hours to kill. First up was some sushi for brunch followed up by watching Hugo. tl;dr version: Hugo was good and you should go see it.

Afterwards I still had a lot of time to kill. What I should have done was head down to Calhoun's, which I haven't been to in quite some time, but instead I hit a Starbucks and spent an hour writing on their patio. Finally I went to Metrotown where I hung around the food fair writing some more, spotted an old crush, and followed it up by mailing a buddy my second gift card for his (rather belated) birthday.

I went back downtown to fetch my luggage and then walked about a Kilometer to the train that would take me to the airport. Sadly I seem to have fucked my back up in the process.

The airport was interesting. Being a Wednesday night it was not busy at all. I ended up sitting by a receptacle in the boarding lounge letting my netbook recharge while I wrote some more. Behind me there were two douchey MBA types comparing penises their business endeavours. Eventually they decided that the older of the two had the bigger penis was more successful and influential. It's a weird combination of funny and irritating to hear a bunch of guys talking about how they hit a triple, when in fact they were merely born on third-base.

I was somewhat lucky on the plane. I only had to share the emergency exit row with one other guy. Sadly it was the beta dog of the douchey MBAs, who was a bit of a jerk with the flight attendant: he sassed her when she tried to give him the emergency exit speech, and generally didn't listen to anything they said unless confronted - keeping his seatbelt on and turning off electronics during take off for example. Nothing too onerous, but Flight Attendants don't need that BS, especially on the last flight of the day. On the bright side, the plane was only half full, so about midway through the flight he got up and picked an empty row to lay down in. Good riddance.

My plane and the snow touched down at the same time. [livejournal.com profile] nosarious was there to pick me up.

It was a good trip, but I have a few regrets:
  • Not actually gaming with anyone, despite prepping two adventures. Next time for sure, especially since I plan on setting the nights to game prior to my next trip.
  • Not running at all. No excuses here - I had time and opportunity and the weather was cooperative two out of four mornings.
  • I didn't see a few people I'd have liked to have seen. Next time.
