Harvest Feast 2011
Sep. 11th, 2011 02:12 pmI was very ambivalent about camping for this event, since setting up my camp takes about an hour and the drive is only 90 minutes. It's often easier to simply day trip.
Anyway, I reasoned that I've always had a good time at Bitter End events, so I was going to have a good time at this one. To alleviate the packing/unpacking time I picked up an instant tent. The tent was too short for me (to stand up in, or even really to put clothes on in), but for one day and ideal weather, it got the job done. Anything longer than that and I'll be using my soul pad. Which reminds me, I really should sell my other tents since I'm not going to be using them again.
The archery was fun, except for the last target, where I simply could not stop from shooting about a foot and a half to the right of the target, despite trying not to do exactly that. Hitting the target exactly once, I suspect I came in last out of everyone competing for champion. I'd really like to know what the hell I was doing wrong, since my shooting has actually been improving for the first time since busting my shoulder. I honestly thought I had a chance this time. I put it out of my head and did not let it depress me this time.
Afterward, I watched the rapier and heavy tournaments, which were fun. My one complaint with the rapier tourney was that there was no heralding of the matches (that I ever saw), so what I thought were pick-ups was actually the competition. My query about when they'd quit pick-ups and actually start the competition was answered with "they've been at it for awhile now - the competition is almost over". Darn.
Bjar the Blue suggested that Bitter End should have a motto, so that when the end procession happens and there is the shouting of the mottos it would go like this:
Court was court. It had its good parts and its irritating parts. Or rather, it had its good people and its irritating person. Alas, I must remain civil.
Afterward, there was three less-formal presentation around assorted camp fires:
Afterward, I hung out at assorted fires and chatted with people I don't get much chance to connect with. That made the camping worth it. The tent did it's job as advertised.
This morning there was pancakes.
No GBU for this event since the Good outweighed the Bad and there was no Ugly to speak of. That's a damn good event in my books.

Bjar the Blue suggested that Bitter End should have a motto, so that when the end procession happens and there is the shouting of the mottos it would go like this:
An Tir - We Stand Together.I heartily agree. As usual, Bitter End's Harvest Feast consists of lots of simple food that is tasty, filling and plentiful.
Avacal - Together We Conquer.
Bitter End - Oh God, I'm So Full.
Court was court. It had its good parts and its irritating parts. Or rather, it had its good people and its irritating person. Alas, I must remain civil.
Afterward, there was three less-formal presentation around assorted camp fires:
- Master Craig Landenthal took Gabriel of the Leaf as a protege, meaning someone will be speaking on her behalf in Pelican's Council. Hopefully the crown will recognize what the rest of already know.
- Sabh took Stragin as a student. Good choice in both directions there.
- Captain Sybell was brought up on charges by Baron Halfdane and the Lemmings for an amusing bit of court schtick. I look forward to part two at Quad War 2012. Everyone seemed to be a good spot about it.

Date: 2011-09-11 08:48 pm (UTC)I picked the four-man tent because it could easily hold a double-size air-mattress.
