My last entry was basically just a quip, but it got an anonymous response (that I've since deleted):
"Hey There. I found your blog using msn. This is a very well written article. I will be sure to bookmark it and come back to read more of your useful information. Thanks for the post. I'll definitely return."
.I don't know, this purely generic bit of boilerplate seems like some kind of scam, but I can't seem to figure out what kind of scam.

Seriously, a post where I grouse about [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political and call myself 99 kinds of asshole is well written? Come on.

I get those all the time over at my blog. I suspect it's some form of spammer testing out a bot (or a spambot not working properly by not leaving a URL).

I get email notifications of comments, and one handy thing about the notifications is that they include the raw HTML of the comment.

These typically have pages and pages of hidden text and links in them, and most of the text is in Russian (and some of the links even have Cyrillic characters in the URL paths). I'm pretty sure LJ comment spam is mostly Russian in origin, which doesn't surprise me given the fact that LJ is run by a Russian host.

Deleting the comment should give you options to both block the sender from commenting again in your journal and marking them as a spammer.

I agree - I understand that most of LJ'stechnical problems in the last while are the result of bots attempting to overwhelm the servers with activity, in which case it wouldn't matter what the comments said so long as there were lots and lots of them (? Am completely clueless about how these things work)
