I heard a story once about a Gorkha platoon that was being briefed on an airdrop mission. It later became clear that, due to various language and cultural factors, they had not understood that they were to be issued parachutes for the airdrops.
They believed they were being ordered to jump out of airplanes to their deaths, and every one of them was willing to do it, whether or not they understood why, and not a one of them were the slightest bit afraid. They'd have just done it without question.
Absolutely, they were badasses. This story here doesn't surprise me at all.
