Meme-oires 28: Something That You Miss
Sep. 28th, 2010 07:02 pmI miss my friends.
Oh not all of my friends, because some of them are still right here. And not the ones who turned out to be assholes - good riddance to them I say.
No, the ones I miss are the ones that have moved away (
zapgun4hire,
missymorgan1,
bungle_lord), or the ones that were far away to begin with (
somejauntypolka,
domyoji,
bognaustroglum,
whiggy_one), or ones that are still nearby, but who have simply drifted away socially (
kermie_canada,
wackynephews,
wendy_licious,
spookiemonkie2).
I'm not sure what happened with that last category. Distant friends I at least have an excuse for not seeing regularly (and a built in reason to travel). The ones nearby? Who knows.
Well that's not entirely true. Nothing is stopping me from calling any of them up. I'm just a little scared that this scenario will repeat itself:
Not everyone is like this, even with a break in time or geography.
evilscientist for example is still a very close friend, even though we haven't really talked in months. I have no doubt that we'll fall back into an easy familiarity the next time we see each other though.

Me: How come we never hang out anymore. It's like I'm being ostracized.I know that's not going to happen (hell, I've seen a few of them recently). There's also something a little awkward about hanging out with someone you were very close with, whom you haven't seen in ages. There's a bond, but it's frayed now, especially if they've had some huge life-changing event happen to them that you have a hard time relating to. Children for example.
Eeyore: That's because you are. Nobody wants you around.

Date: 2010-09-29 10:43 pm (UTC)It's hard when lives that used to run together start to drift apart - different pastimes, hobbies, priorities...
Will we see you at the THUA?

Date: 2010-09-29 11:18 pm (UTC)I doubt I'll be at THUA. SCA feels too much like a chore these days, so I'm picking and choosing which events I'll go to (next three likely targets are Harvest Feast, Montengarde 12th Night, Estrella).
