SCA Tavern is tonight. It's also a general meeting of our not-for-profit group. I dislike mixing tavern with meetings - it's a good way to piss off the people who want to just have fun at a tavern while simultaneously pissing off all the people who want to focus on a successful meeting.

The SCA has decreed that if branches want to stick around they need to do all their banking with accounts linked to the SCA. They've presented us with a Hobson's choice and my opinion is that Hobson's choices are - here in the real world - usually just false dilemmas (i.e. the SCA could have presented us with other options, but have chosen not to).

Anyway, tonight is the big vote. Will we move all our money from the not-for-profit group's accounts to the linked account.

I'm not going to vote "yes" for the simple reason that I think it's a bad idea. I've gone into the reasons why before and I'm not going to rehash it at this time.

I could vote "no" but that's basically cutting off my nose to spite my face. I might do it if I thought it would send a message to the SCA, but I'm under no illusions - we're too small and distant for them to give a rat's ass about us. If the motion fails to pass it only hurts the people in Montengarde - i.e. the people I actually like in the SCA.

So I'm going to abstain from the vote. Of course, to be effective I have to be there - otherwise you can't tell the difference between an abstention and sloth. That's one of my big complaints with people who don't vote in the real world for the stated reason of "I don't like any of my options". Go refuse your ballot then, otherwise you're just a lazy irresponsible git.

I still feel a little ridiculous putting that much effort into it though. Still, I am on the Board of Directors, so I really should see it through. Even though it means the death of the not-for-profit group - a group I actually care about and believe served an important function.

I also have to give someone bad news at Tavern. Not looking forward to that for a variety of reasons. I might go into it in an after-the-fact post. Or not. The whole situation is leaving me emotionally raw when it should be an unambiguous delight - that more than anything else is driving my decision.

I need to remember, in 100 years, no one will care.

On the tavern and meeting thing - we always have ours combined - just do the business meeting first then tavern - works great actually

Just my two cents.

No comment on the rest - we've flogged that carcass amply
