We just had a wrath-of-god prairie hailstorm blow across the work place (I work in Research Park, just north of the University). This makes me glad I work indoors and the car is in the garage.

I don't think this one was powerful enough to wreck my roof shingles (which happened to my folks 19 years ago) - the hail was only golf-ball sized and the duration was only ten minutes. Still, you wouldn't want to be caught in it.

A survey of the parking lot at work revealed nearly every car's roof was now dimpled with hail stone impacts, but all the windshields seem to have survived intact. At least one car alarm was triggered.

My car took a few good dents so I'll be thinking of going through insurance to get it fixed, we'll see. The hail was a but bigger here, some almost 2" round. They set off my car alarm 3 times and blew the back glass out of one car.

I was going on the train down Crowchild. Everybody was pulled off to the side, even so far as to go up the embankments to get under tree cover. It was kind of insane.

I was out driving around in this the moment it hit and 20 minutes it took me to get back to the office. I was hydroplaning on the Stoney something fierce (going only 80), and the roads were all rivers.

A few times I was sure I was going to loose my windshield. But I managed to miss the golf balls hail stones and the car appears mostly intact.

People were hiding under the overpasses all over Deerfoot.

Don't pull stuff out. Sometimes both tomatoes and peas can recover quite quickly - mostly because they can regenerate the top portions of the plant as long as the amount of roots are large enough and healthy enough.

I guess the Calgary offices of AITF (once called ARC) were somewhere near the really big hail that happened today - I guess everyone at the office is having to make insurance claims on the cars there - lots of dents and busted windows.

We just had massive intermittant power issues in this neck of the woods - and it's still raining.

I sort of figured that might be the case. The info I got about the storm was from our communications person. It sounds like it was really bad out there.

We lucked out here in the NE, the hail was only pea sized when it came roaring through here...
