June Coronet was a lot of fun. It was the first camping event of the season and there was a lot going on. I was involved, I was occupied and there was just enough downtime to allow me to catnap. All-in-all it would have been a decent event.

But it wasn't a decent event - it was damn near epic. First, I was HL Arwyn's inspiration, so there was a chance that I could have become the Prince-consort of Avacal. This didn't happen because Arwyn didn't win the tournament, but it did allow me to come to terms with the chance that she would. I had to move from the mindset of not a chance to there is a chance, and what will you do if it happens. I figure the best thing I could do for Avacal if I were Prince-consort would be to go through Principality Law, pick the single dumbest thing in it and try to get rid of it. I might not succeed at this (there's a lot of inertia in the system), but it would at least give me a goal for the reign.

Alas, it was not to be (this time). Arwyn lost her first fight to Kirk and Kirk ended up winning the tournament. We all knew it (Kirk winning a Coronet tournament) was going to happen sooner or later. When Arwyn was later knocked out of the tournament, I started cheering for Kirk.

This was the cleanest tournament I've ever seen. Also the one I was the most emotionally involved in. Not just because of the presence of Arwyn and Kirk, but because I can recognize a majority of the fighters now.

So Kirk won the tournament, which means that he and [livejournal.com profile] mommaquilter are the Tanist and Tanista (heirs to the Prince and Princess) of Avacal. At Quad War they get to be Prince and Princess. This will be a boatload of stress for both of them, so give them a hand whenever possible. Don't wait for them to ask either since both of them are the soldier on in silence type.

Later that night came the drinking. We even got [livejournal.com profile] garething to drink, which is quite the achievement. It really snuck up on me because I didn't feel that drunk. However, my ability to walk straight was severely impaired so clearly I was loaded. I'm not feeling too depressed now so I don't feel I overdid it. However, I'm not going to drink that much again until Quad War or [livejournal.com profile] othelianna has a cocktail party - whichever comes first.

Speaking or Rosie, we made cookies and hard cider and donated them to the Principality travel auction. I think we averaged about $10 per item so that was $60 to the coffers. Not bad since we had a lot of stuff left over for "personal use" and we probably only spent about $60 on the supplies.

I ignored [livejournal.com profile] missymorgan1's advice for not getting a hangover and sure enough I had a hangover Sunday morning. That and curia (The quarterly Principality business meeting) put a negative spin on the end of the event. However, I choose not to dwell on that. The event was a blast and I had a lot of fun.

In other news, my new tent worked great and generated a lot of queries. There were two other Soulpads on site and I suspect we're going to be seeing more of them in the future. I might sell this one next year and get the next size up. It depends on how irritated I get by having to hunch over to get in and out.

Sounds awesome! I'm sorry I missed it. And if your fighter can't win, it's always nice to know they were taken
out by the best.

I wish I'd seen your tent in person - it looks really cool!

Does it pack down small?

SHUT UP! Wow .... hmm... that is impressive!

I am mulling about wether this would be a good addtion for the events where we don't have the room to tote our giant A frame. Our alternate tent is painfully modern and hurts my soul a little bit every time we set it up. How is it once you are in? Can you stand up in it? You are a tall fellow so a good measure for how annoyed Vik would get with it : )

K wants a yurt, but this might work in the interim or like you say, when you don't want to tote the big one around.

JQ, it doesn't say anything about their canvas having any fire retardant on it, did you ask about that?

It looks very yurt-y and that is nice...

I think that this is an awesome option for SCAdians. Not overtaly modern Yurtish. Neutral canvas. Not an epic pain in the ass to tote and erect.

I would gladly see the field full of these over most of th other tenty options we usualy see!

And I think I am a bit of a pruist wonk for what that is worth.

Thanks for the share....

I wants the one with the zip off floor! I like the look of the soulpads with the walls rolled up. I like a nice crossbreeze.

Its a strange sensation becoming emotionally involved in something you aren't "exactly" involved in eh? It happened to me at May Crown this year when Kirk was fighting for me. Suddenly you look up as the fighter is saluting the one that inspires you today and realize its a possibility some day.

Thanks for the tent link. I`ve been trying to figure how I was going to replace the fake pavillion when the poles finally gave way (they are getting more dodge-y everytime I set up). Now I have this as an option.
