Any thoughts on unisex bathrooms (i.e. nothing but stalls and sinks, no urinals, and the stalls have a higher degree of privacy then currently prevalent to thwart peeping toms)?

With regards to the last one, I did use the guys washroom while it was very occupied because it was desperate. Never seen tough guys so sheepish in my life. :)

I have on very very rare occasions gotten over my sense of decorum and used the men's if the men's is a closeable, one stall with no one around (let alone no one in line) or if it's a sort of special situation where the only useable toilet is the men's and everyone at the event or whatever is aware we'll all be using it. But in 99% of situations, "No way." covers my approach :-)

However, I'd be cool with unisex bathrooms. I don't want them to take over the world, since sometimes it's nice to just be away from boys, but on occasion it would be fine with me.

Never been the case where the mens bathroom was backed up far enough that I would use the females. Maybe at the burns dinner, but with that many kilts going around, it almost seems like the ladies bathroom to begin with.

As for unisex bathroom. Good idea in theory, bad idea in practise. For the most part it would be fine, but there would be an increase in... questionable activities occurring in the washroom, ranging from peeping to.. well what comes naturally when a man and a woman love love each other.

The other question would be if they're willing to use them. Some people don't want the world to know that they poop. Ie, shameful shitters.

The one Caveat I have is that I'd be weighing the overall mood of the place / event against my urgency. It's one thing to have a woman use a men's room in a pinch, but somewhat different to have a bald, bearded, 300+ pound man walk into a woman's bathroom. The first may make the guys uncomfortable, the second could result in said man being hauled away by police.

As for the using the other gender's bathroom question - I'll do it if it's the single person bathrooms (i.e. no stalls). I don't understand why they specify gender on those sometimes... I've only once or twice used a multiple-person-style men's washroom.

And - I think I asked you the first part a while back, didn't I? It's always confused me, the people who won't use a handicapped stall even when there's a giant line-up of people behind them, all of whom are obviously not requiring the handicapped stall.

We use the handicapped stalls all the time here in the States. They accommodate handicapped people but it's not for their use alone. Also a lot of Malls and other places like that have family restrooms in addition to mens and womens. It allows Mom's and Dads and families to use one restroom instead of Dad dragging the little girls into the mens room, or entering the womens room with the little girls and vice versa.

There's also the ironic fact that for us parents of kids in diapers, most of the time the change pully downy thingy is IN the handicapped stall. Soooo no real choice there on which one you use.
