Before I return to writing my Estrella/Vegas travelogue, I thought I'd mention something that came up in conversation: Cult Films that people should have seen, but haven't. Here's a few that will be coming up at movie nights here in Pepperland in the weeks and months to follow:
  • The Big Lebowski
  • Dark City
  • Strange Days
  • The Goonies
  • Real Genius
  • The Sting
  • The Fifth Element
  • Holes
Obviously, these aren't all cult films. Some are just films that should be on any serious movie aficionado's list (The Sting, for example, won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1973).

Anyway, am I missing some obvious ones? I'm looking for the films that make you say "How can you not have seen that?" when you hear that a friend has not seen that.

So next weekend we're going to watch "The Big Lebowski" here at Pepperland. We might also watch "Zombieland", which is too new to determine it's "must see" status, but it's cool regardless. Exact time to be determined.

Rocky Horror Picture Show. (of course, part of its cult status was from the way crowds in theatres participated - not just dressing up, but throwing rice at the weding scene, getting up en masse to do the Time Warp and so on - and in a living room, I'm not sure how well that would translate, but still, no cult movie fanatic should have missed this one.)

Still, you gotta see it...make the rice and water pistols and costumes mandatory, make the guest list long, and at least give it the old college try! (I know it still hits the theatres every so often, but you aren't allowed to throw rice, or get up and dance, or anything anyway.)
