For those of us not of the knightly bent... we shall do no more than wonder (and recommend) I can't keep track of the dramas that put black marks on some, good marks on others and I often wonder how out of date these little foibles are that are holding, what I think are great people, back.
*shrug* I forgot the populace can also voice its hurras too.
I read a trashy novel once, I think it was a Dan Brown novel, wherein a pope was elected by acclamation. Apparently there is an obscure reference in Canonical Law that mentions alternative ways of a pope being recognized, and one of them is a who boatload of people yelling at the same time "Yo! Dat guy be da Pope! Yo! Pope!" I wonder if that would be possible in the SCA. You know, have a whole boatload of SCAdians stand up at a court where a King was in attendance, and politely request (at spear point) that so-and-so be knighted, 'cuz it would be the right (and prudent) thing to do.
Amusing. I think I'll stick with sending in a recommendation. Enough of the people I've recommended have gotten awards (AoAs mostly) that it seems to have greater odds then writing Santa.
I do worry that, being a non-peer, my recommendations might be taken negatively.
I'm curious why you would feel your recommendation would be taken negatively? It's not been my experience (on either side of the chair)that recommendations are seen as negative if the recommendor is a non-peer. And really, that would completely suck a&& if it were the case. Can you throw some more light on this for me? Thanks!
