This is the problem with LJ, we all think we are so close, and we know nothing about each other. I'm going to rectify it. I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me, something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

I've always wondered why you friended me (I am not saying I mind), given that many in your social circle have such a negative opinion of me?

I friended you because you are an interesting and intelligent writer, and you often post things that make me laugh.

I think you're an interesting person. I've certainly never had any complaints about the few times I've actually spent time with you in person.

Roughly half of the people on my friends list are casual acquaintances I know well enough to say "hi" to on the street. I follow their blogs because I like to hear about the minutiae of their lives. It's a nice window into other people's social lives without my needing to do anything quite so nerve-wracking as actually meeting people (I have a mild social phobia that has kept me dateless for long periods of time). I'm under orders from my Therapist to get out and do more things socially, which is why I've been going to more SCAdian events, as well as my current Deutsches Lernen experiment.

As for my social circle, the people you are referring to are acquaintances I don't really have much contact with anymore. Oh, I still like most of them, but I hang with a different crowd now.

Even so, I only ever got "stay the hell away from her" comments from one person. This same person has pretty much demonised every single person that he's ever known (including me and the people who are his current bestest friends ever) so I wouldn't put too much stock in his opinion of you. When the tornado trashes your trailer home, it nothing personal - it's just the tornado's nature.

You should know that I consider us good friends, even if we don't get to talk more often then once every two years.
