We got to the theater and went to hook all the equipment up and found - there were no compatible inputs to the industrial-strength projector that the the theatre uses.

It's hooked into an ancient DVD player that doesn't have auxiliary inputs. It does use component video output, and the PS3 has component video output, so we could, in theory, simply swap the cables from the DVD to the PS3 - If they weren't both male connectors. A search of the various nooks and crannies of the theatre could not find any female-female connectors. We'll need those or a DVD player with both Component input and output. I suspect getting the connectors will be a lot cheaper.

Now we could have had that all sorted out had we went through with our test run (which was the original plan) except that the two instigators (myself among them) completely forgot. So we just invited everyone over and assumed it would work. Whoops.

The bright side is we know how to fix the problem. The bad news was we weren't going to fix it tonight.

So I gave everyone the bad news and we ended up going to birthday boy's house to play Rock Band the old fashion way - on his tiny television set. We'd have gone back to my house, but that would require hooking the equipment back up.

I hope to try again at some point. Hopefully soon. Perhaps before the theatre opens on Sunday if [livejournal.com profile] sagaciouslu is willing.

On the bright-side, I did get to see a small amount of a cool building I wish I owned. The upstairs theatre (where we were going to play) has a "VIP" room (a secret room with an unobstructed view of the screen so you can watch a movie without being distured by the hoi polloi). I had a sudden urge to have sex in that room, but lacked a few key components (time, sex partners) for making it happen. Cest la vie.

The second instigator was hoping for the best, unfortunately trusting the adage "how bad could it really be?"

At least we know... for what's it''s worth. Still would love to know how you lose a bottle of port.
