[livejournal.com profile] nosarious and I decide to go down to the impound lot together. Mostly this is to prevent multiple trips - I have no idea what paperwork they require for my roomy to fetch the car. They say a letter giving permission is sufficient, but it's a bureaucracy - I misspell a word and they could send him back to get it fixed. Better to just do it myself.

We take the train down to the Manchester yards and we very quickly talk to a commissionaire (surprise number one - I was expecting to stand in line for a couple hours). They have no record of my car. This, apparently, isn't unheard of. We get a ride around the lot looking for my car, seeing several hundred cars (about a third of which are smashed up) and none of them are mine.

"You might want to consider that your car has been stolen." says the attractive commissionaire helping us out. Report it to the police so that they can do something about it.

Before doing all that though, I told [livejournal.com profile] nosarious that we were going to go to where he parked the car downtown and see if he didn't just look for it on the wrong block. To make a long story short, that's exactly what happened. My car was one block west of where he thought he'd parked it, none the worse for wear. Not only that, it had spent all morning in a 2-hour max parking zone and didn't have a ticket.

My car was never impounded and I get to tease [livejournal.com profile] nosarious mercilessly about it.

I am out a half day at work, but it's Friday so meh. Plus he treated me to lunch.

The day is getting better.

Wow! I suspect that would have had me under a rock in shame if that had been me losing your car.

Well Done! All's well then.

A similar happened to me when I got the rental car while Juvi was in the shop. I picked up the car, went to Canadian Tire, went out to the full parking lot and completely forgot what kind of rental car I got. I spent 10 minute walking up and down the aisles looking for rental stickers before I figured it out.

Worried
