As many of you know, I'm attending [livejournal.com profile] garething and [livejournal.com profile] stephtopia's wedding on April 1st. It's in Cuba and we're leaving March 30 and returning on April 7th.

Or maybe not because I've just received a Juror Summons for Friday March 28.

I have no problem doing my civic duty, but couldn't they have waited two weeks? Sadly, relaxing on the beach is not considered a good enough reason to be excused. I don't even want to be excused, I just want to postpone it a little.

I remember there were a number of reasons you can blow it off, and I thought having a booked vacation was one of them. But I'm sure it'll work out one way or the other - most likely even if you can't get out of it, you'll call the day before like they say and they'll say they don't need anyone. Or your assignment itself might just be after you're back.

Well, that's just typical isn't it? Tell them you need to promote the glorious communist cause, or you are visiting your old pal, Fidel.

Seconded! (I'm pretty sure you can get out of it by being racially or politically biased.)

I shouldn't laugh at your pain. But, I am. Does this make me a bad person?

Well put! I cannot argue with either your logic or insight...

I don't know if it works similarly in Canada as it does in the U.S. I got a summons and then my Stepdad died. I was able to get it postponed. Just call the number they give you for stuff like that. It should be with the paperwork they sent and explain that you need a postponement because you've had plans for months to go out of country for a wedding and you can't change those plans. If you're in the wedding that might be better for your case too. You really should be able to get a postponement.
