1 What is your SCA Name?

James the Quixotic. That's not "period" though, so I'm toying with James MacDonald of Skye.

2. What time and where do you portray?

12th century Scotland.

3. In plain English describe your device.

Purple background with St Andrews cross on the top (think of the Scottish flag) and a white windmill on the bottom. I have no idea if this would pass muster with the College of Heralds. I'm tempted to simply ignore them though.

4. How long have you been in the SCA?

Six years. Active for nearly four now.

5. Do you have any special titles you have earned?

I'm most proud of being a master-level archer. I'm also a member of the Order of the Golden Link, Montengarde's service award.

6. What kingdom and local group do you belong to?

Barony of Montengarde, Principality of Avacal, Kingdom of An Tir.

7. Do you have preferred colors for your SCA Persona?

MacDonald tartan. White trimmings in the spring and summer, black in the fall and winter.

8. What is your war that you look forward to going to every year?

Quad War. The two best times I've had at an event were QW06 and QW07.

9. Do you hold any offices?

I'm the Seneschal of Montengarde. I also like to hit my thumb with a hammer.

10. Favorite memory from an event?

That's private.

11. Are you a fighter?

Nope. I aspire to shooting them though. One of these days, when the armour is assembled and the stars are right, I might get my chance.

12. Are you crafty (making things)?

Talent is something I lack.

13. Do you teach classes at events?

Nope. This goes with the lack of talent.

14. Do you play instruments at events?

I've been toying with the idea of playing bagpipe. I feel that a lack of talent, combined with a musical instrument who's purpose is to strike terror in the hearts of listeners, is the right fit for me.

15. Do you dance at events?

I got really loaded at Beltane 07 and danced a jig for the Princess.

16. Do you feel that there is enough flirting and chivalrous behavior in the SCA?

Yes and no. I think properly executed flirting and chivalry is always welcome. Sadly there's too many people that think 1) flirting and molesting are equivalent and 2) chivalrous behavior is a down payment for their ulterior motives.

17. Are you a "Black Hat" or a "White Hat"?

Too many black hats now. My persona is "just a guy". I try to make myself generally useful, but that's not my persona, it's just me.

18. What is one of the reasons you've remained in the SCA?

This is where many of my friends are.

19. What peerage(s) do you aspire to?

Pelican. It'll never happen though. Every Pelican I've met in Avacal works ten times harder then I'm willing to. Plus I have a streak of asshole that I can't always smother.

20. Who was Crown when you joined the SCA?

Hell, I don't know who it is now. When court ends, I holler "long live (mumble) & (mumble)".

21. If you are a Peer, who was the Crown that elevated you?

22. Have you lived in more than 1 kingdom and which ones?

23. Have you helped found a group?

Nope.

24. Have you had any house affiliations?

I'm a member of "Da Union" of Avacal Archers. It's more of a guild then a house though. All you need to do to be a member is shoot in three tournaments or submit three royal rounds in a season.

I've always thought of houses as saying "I'm with X, and you're not". As the ostracized kid in school, that's always bothered me.
