Housewarming
Aug. 8th, 2004 08:59 pmNow I have a history of organizing parties at which nobody shows up. This is always a colossal blow to my self-esteem. It was shaping up to be that way yesterday. First, there was Friday night were I went to Archery and got (apparently) the cold shoulder from everybody. Most of the conversations were like this:
Me: "Hi, hows it going? Want to go to my housewaming tomorrow?"Phooey.
Them: "Oh, look - there's someone I'd rather talk to then you. Seeya."
I spent Saturday morning building shelves, cleaning out the several cubic yards of abandoned cardboard. Then I went and bought booze and party food. Gareth met me at the store and gave me a ride back. This made him and Kirin the first to show up. Bruce and Nazrat showed up next. And then there was no one for quite awhile. It got so bad that I made cookies, and then we ended up watching tennis on the idiot box for an hour. On the bright side, I now have a new celebrity for my list-of-three.
And then a bunch of people all showed up at once. In all there was 15 guests, which is a record for parties i've organized. Everyone seemed to have a good time. Lord knows I did - I'll have to do it again sometime.
Weird thing though. I got presents, but nobody got what I asked for - the booze in your liquor cabinet that you don't drink. Chantelle had an interesting take on this that may explain why it didn't work:
Chantelle: "I don't understand what you mean by 'booze you don't drink'".Lisa came closest by bringing a brand new bottle of sparkling wine. I also got a paperweight and a voodoo doll.
The house warming became the kind of big-ass round-table-discussion that I love. I also got to show off some of my toys. I love this house - I think I'll keep it.
