Sister-in-Law
Jul. 29th, 2004 08:49 pmSo we sold Casa Cyr today. This is the bulk of my inheritance, so it's nice that it's out of the way. We have a month to pretty much strip the place bare before the owner-to-be takes possession (and knocks the place down presumably). My sister and I were waiting at the house so that we could meet with my realtor to sign the paperwork.
My brother shows up and he's pissed. Stomping around, glowering, refusing help moving very heavy appliances (stove, washer) around. When we try to help him he exploded into a five minute rant.
This of course got the rest of us upset and defensive. I managed to defuse the situation to the point where there wasn't going to be a shouting match.
Problem is, I want a shouting match, but not with my brother. I want to have it out with my sister-in-law whose got him so worked up. It's bad enough that he has to deal with grief over my mom and dad (and he's nowhere near as open about his feelings as me and my sister are, so it's just chewing him up inside), but he has to put up with his wife going on about how my sister and I steal everything and are going to cheat him out of his share of the inheritance.
I want to take her aside and say:

Listen bitch. The people who are dealing with my parents estate are my sister and I. Even if we decided to involve Bill, we wouldn't involve you.Problem is, I can't say any of that to her because then my brother will feel duty bound to defend her. So you nice folks get to hear it instead.
You think your entitled to everything and you've emptied my parents house without so much as a by-your-leave. If you had asked, you might find we'd have given you everything you asked for. Here's the thing: You didn't ask, not even once. And you get indignant whenever we ask you to bring something back.
You've accused my sister of stealing more times than I can count and every single time I've checked into it you've been wrong. If somebody has a guilty conscious around here I'm thinking it's the one who protests so much.
Here's how it's going to be: My sister and I are going to take care of all the financial details without any input from you. When the cash comes in, rest assured that Bill will get his third. If he chooses to share any of it with you, that's his business. But if it takes us ten fucking years to get to that point your response is to keep your fucking trap shut and wait it out.
