On Living in the China Shop
Feb. 27th, 2013 11:24 amI've been reading and learning a lot about privilege over the last few years. I've got a lot of privilege in this world. I'm a white, middle-aged, professional, heterosexual, male - I'm about privileged as I can be without actually being part of the ruling class. I can't do anything about that, but I can be aware of it and try to do better. For example, I can be aware of the assumptions in society and educate others and not take advantage of my privilege too often. That sort of thing.
I've decided it's a bit like being a bull in a china shop. I'm always going to be a bull. I'm always going to be in the china shop. But I can at least try to tread lightly and not knock over too many displays.
