My roommates ([livejournal.com profile] kermie_canada and [livejournal.com profile] nosarious) and I were discussing politics this morning. This in itself is a little odd as it was breakfast and none of us were firing on all cylinders yet.

I bitched that all of Ralph Klein's bozo policies are starting to come home to roost, but the typical Alberta voter wasn't going to make the connection between past causes and current problems, thus Ed Stelmach will get blamed.

And the honeymoon's over for old Steady Eddie - he's revealing himself to be just like all the other Alberta PCs. And I really shouldn't be so surprised by that fact.

Anyway, I was complaining that the canonization of St. Ralph had already begun and would only continue. Eventually they would name mountains, streets, schools and hospitals after him. grumble grumble.
"Actually, it would be ironic that they would name a hospital after Ralph" said Carmen.
"The only hospital they should name after Ralph Klein is the hole in the ground that used to be Calgary General", said I.
Yes kids, they should put up a big sign smack dab in the middle of what was once Calgary's core hospital.
Ralph Klein Memorial Hospital
(formerly Calgary General Hospital)
(currently a large hole in the ground)
(soon to be expensive condominiums)

Does anyone have a camera and time to visit the RKM Crater? I have Photoshop just waiting for a source image. (Hint, hint).

Demolishing the old General was necessary - doing so without replacing it was unconscionable.

Completely rumor mill - but I heard that the old Calgary General had issues inherit in the building - I don't recall if it was asbestos or radiation contamination. It needed to come down.

More precisely it needed to be replaced with another hospital. Not condos - that's just sick!

There were a lot of problems with the building - not just asbestos issues. The myriad additions that had been put on it made it extremely difficult to navigate - even for staff.

But that's part of the reason for what I said - demolishing it was necessary - doing so without a replacement in the works was wrong.

{and no, I'm not softening my opinion of Ralph now that he's retired}

... I don't like Ralph - never did; and like you I understand why they needed to demolish the hospital. Hence, the "to not replace it is sick" comment.
