1. What is your SCA name? (You don't have to write the full name, just your first name if you want.)
1. What is your SCA name? (You don't have to write the full name, just your first name if you want.)
James the Quixotic. James is period (having been used more or less consistently for the last 3000 years), Quixotic not so much since the term was invented in 1602 - two whole years out of period!2. What is your home kingdom?
An Tir3. Have you ever lived in another kingdom? If so, where?
Nope.4. Do you remember your first SCA event? When/what was it?
Montengarde 12th Night several years ago. I ran into an "old friend" and ended up leaving early so I missed the whole "new blood" procession at the end of court.5. Do you have any awards? (You don't have to list them if you don't want)
I've got my AoA and I'm a member of the Order of the Golden Link. Still scratching my head over those.6. Do you list them after your name in communications like e-mail?
You can list them after your name?7. Do you have a device?
Nope. I've jokingly suggested a burning cross on a field of swastikas (because there's a "no offensive devices" clause when submitting). I might take my family's real world coat of arms and modify it slightly. Changing the stars for hearts or testicals or some other nonsense.8. Do you use it? On what?
I need to get one first.9. Are you on all the kingdom/society lists available to you, or do you avoid them?
I barely read the local ones.10. Do you keep your Pennsic/Estrella/Gulf Wars/etc. site tokens?
Not yet because I've yet to go to any of the big ass events.11. Do you keep the favours you've been given by royalty/friends/Sos, etc.? Do You wear them all?
I keep them, along with all my site tokens, in a huge mass hanging from the knob of the door to my fuse box. My award tokens (AoA/OoGL) I wear.12. Do you call your friends by their SCA names even when you're not at an event?
I try not to, but I forget sometimes. Usually my problem is the other way around - referring to people by their mundane name at events.13. Do you go out to dinner in garb after an event?
Not yet, but I don't see a reason why not. I have gotten the hairy eyeball filling the car with gas in rural Alberta while decked out in my kilted glory.14. Do you have all kinds of garb, or do you generally stick to one period?
I have two kings of garb. My collection of kilts/poofy shirts and my basic tee tunic/baggy pants. Period for both is kinda-sorta-european-in-the-past.15. How many interests do you have within the SCA? What's your favourite?
I like the behind the scenes and social aspects of the society more then I like the actual reenactment. Having said that I do like archery a lot and I'm almost good at it.16. Do you have an SCA-oriented web site (to show off projects, keep dress diaries, etc.)?
I don't have a personal one but I am the web minister for the Barony of Montengarde.17. Do you maintain a hairstyle that is more period style than modern?
Is "cut short" period?18. Do you tell "No $###, there I was" stories? (Admit it.) Do any of them involve well-known SCA people?
Yes and No.19. Authenticity is Fun. Yes or no? Why?
It's fun if it makes you happy. It's not fun if you get bent out of shape about people who care less about it then you. I always try to remember that, no matter how serious we play the game, it's still just a game.20. Is there one modern thing at events that really bugs you?
Nothing I've ever encountered.Bonus Question! 21. Everyone has a shameful garb/accessory mistake hidden somewhere in their past. What's yours? (We're all friends here, we promise not to laugh. Much.)
As someone who once won the "tackiest garb" contest at a tavern, I'm here to tell you I have no shame when it comes to garb.
