Wednesday after SCA council a bunch of us decided to go to the Cat and Fiddle pub. I hadn't eaten yet, so I figured this was as good a place as any.

We order the food from the Paris Hilton look-alike who was our waitress and then we waited. And waited. And waited. For about an hour.

What I ordered was the Montreal smoked meat sandwich. I hadn't had one in a long time so it sounded good. Now picture in you mind the ideal Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich. What I got was as far away from that as you could get and technically still be a Montreal smoked meat sandwich.

They got the rye bread right. They put some tomatoes on it, and some lettuce. For the meat there was but a single slice - this was their first sin. They slathered it with mayo. Not dijon mustard, not even regular mustard. Mayonnaise. This was their second sin.

So yeah, here I am in Edmonton jonesing for a real Montreal smoked meat sandwich. Perhaps tomorrow when I'm at the mall.

Yes, there is nothing worst than ordering a sandwich and finding something unpleasant on it that shouldn't be there. Especially when you could have had the beef dip.

To find a Montreal Smoked meat sammich...

If it is still there, there was a cafe in the south west, just off of MacLeod Trail called the Metro...they had passable montreal smoked meat sammiches and cheesecake on the menu. I'm sure they had other stuff, but those were the two that were memorable for me :-D

3 things

1 Thats just wrong go to one of the places mentioned below and get a good smoked meat sandwich

2 in calgary there are 4(maybe 5) places for good Montreal Smoked meat

Cafe Metro (get the latkes instead of the fries)
Alberta King of Subs
Palace of Eats (very expensive but still good)
Cosco (yes Cosco only problem is the bread they serve it on and you can also buy packages to take home and reheat)
The Blue Olive (haven't tried it myself but heard good things)

3 If you are at my B-day on Wednesday June 7th my mom is bringing some up with her from Montreal as well as Bagels and Kosher Dill pickles
