Tuesday was shopping day and it rained pretty much non-stop here in the Soggy City By The Sea (SCbtS). I discovered a fundamental difference between Cowtown and SCbtS: In Calgary, when it rains you can wait it out - The Palliser triangle has a near-infinite capacity to absorb water and a finite amount of water. In Vancouver you just have to cope with it - The Lower Mainland was a near-infinite amount of water and a finite capacity to absorb it.
What this means is that rain that last more than a few hours in Calgary is rare and noteworthy, and when it stops it starts drying out almost immediately. Muddy patches on the road become bone-dry collections of dust with just an hour of sunlight.
In Vancouver on the other hand it can rain and rain and rain. Then it will rain some more. It wasn't raining this morning when I went for a run, but the atmosphere was so saturated with moisture that I could see my breath and it was about 15 C.
I had a short list of hard-to-find CDs that I hunted around for, eventually finding just one ("I Find You Very Attractive" by Touch and Go). Sorry Gareth, the Virgin store carries "Withing the Veil" but it's currently out of stock.
The time got away from me and the two hour shopping trip somehow telescoped out into the early evening. I got to Carmen & Josh's place after 8, where we watched "Super Troopers". It was stupid but enjoyable - an excellent 'tard movie.
My morning run was along Jericho beach - damn it was nice.
