I'm probably wrong, but I thought that "blisters on the soles of her feet" went with the "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes" that Paul Simon gave her.

The small-town girl is on a Journey, in which the advice is to "Don't Stop Believin'".

That deaf, dumb, and blind kid is a "Pinball Wizard", which I always associate with Elton John, though the credit goes to The Who.
