Hoody Hoo! My letter to the Herald garnered two responses. That's right, two people were irate enough to write back!

The first letter, from Colin Korol basically said Funk right, Cyr wrong. The second letter, from Jason Pigeon pointed out that lots of people want to adopt. Once again, you'll have to subscribe to the web edition to follow the links, or pick up a paper for free at a swimming pool (thanks [livejournal.com profile] _grog_ for pointing out that option).

Korol's letter basically asserts that I'm wrong. I didn't read any evidence of this, but I'll assume it's because he only had 250 words to get his point across, rather then an argument by assertion.

Pigeon's letter helpfully points out the existence of adoption, under the assumption that I was previously unaware of it. To that I have a few counter arguments:
1) So it's OK to enslave a woman's body for 9 months, but not for 18 years?
2) People aren't exactly lining up to adopt less then perfect babies.
Oh, and the Herald got his gender wrong when they wrote "Mother writes her opinion changed the moment she held her first child."

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for adoption if it's the woman's choice. Hell, one of my best friends is adopted and he turned out better than I have.

Tangentially related, Mark Morford weighed in on South Dakota. He does have an entertaining way with words.
