The King and Queen were pretty charming. Uther in particular could be a candidate for Paxton's Syndrome, but I would have to get to know him better to really make that determination.

The more I think about it, the more astonished I am that I got my AoA. Apparently this takes multiple letters of recommendation, as well as the K&Q consulting with the local nobility (in my case, this was probably the Prince and Princess of Avacal and the Baron and Baroness of Montengarde. Ultimately, I don't know exactly who to thank (and likely they will remain anonymous), but I do know it was not insignificant! I feel happy and loved by all but myself (on account I'm still feeling stupid over the car). I don't deserve this award, I'll need to redouble my efforts so nobody notices.

Numerous people got awards for their chivalrous behavior. I'm beginning to think that part (though definitely not all) of this is timing. Two personal cases in point:

1) During the archery tournament, numerous people suggested that hot coffee or hot chocolate (or hell, anything hot) would have been a good idea for the tent. Afterwards I thought, it would be a great idea to take a quick run into town to buy a plate warmer, a kettle, a coffee maker (and coffee and hot chocolate and soup and tea, etc.) and a long extension cord to power the whole thing.

It would have been a great thing to do. A nice thing to do. The chivalrous thing to do. And it flat out didn't occur to me until later when Dalton was singing Allister's praises in court. Though this does give me an idea for being prepared for a hypothetical repeat of the tourney.

I can be chivalrous, I just need to take a running jump at it.

2) During court, the fellow who won "most chivalrous squire" was commenting on his "failure" during the squire's tournament. In my mind I thought "Any man who remembers to be chivalrous and romantic, even when doing badly in a tournament, is no failure". It occurred to me later that I should have shouted that out. I'm sure I'd have gotten a few "hear hears" and "amen brothers" out of that. Most importantly, it might have helped this fellow to understand that he was being given an honour and not a booby prize.

A few years ago I thought "the SCA is nice, but I doubt I'll be anything more than a fringer". Now I want to get more of my friends in into it so they can have as much fun as I do.
