Have Car, Wll travel - Part 5
Nov. 23rd, 2005 07:00 pmThis lack of MSN is really starting to bum me out.
So today was a traveling day. I had breakfast with
somejauntypolka,
whiggy_one and vRyan (who has a livejournal, but I couldn't remember what it was if a gun was pointed at my head, much less spell it). It was at the Dutch Wooden Shoe (like De Dutch, only better). I was hoping to see
slavewench too, but she didn't make it, no doubt due to the disruption in sleep schedules that only switching shifts can bring on. Oh well, another trip where I am unsuccessful in my seduction plans. ;)
Stopped off at the Tilley Store and got some badly needed new belts. Then I started driving East. Right into the parking lot that was the Trans-Canada highway.
From 170th Avenue to 264th Avenue, things were backed up due to a major accident. Had I known in advance, I'd have been able to avoid it, but it was not to be. I sat there for two hours, drifting forward now and then as the cops let some small amount of traffic through. I made some phone calls, amused myself reading my maps, read my car's manual (so know I know how to use some of the more esoteric controls, like the brakes), programmed in a bunch of Vancouver radio stations, contemplated getting out of the car for a quick jog, or a leak, or simply to go into the trunk and grab my laptop. Sadly I had snack within arms reach and my brain shut off - this combined to make me consume the junk food that was supposed to last me for two days. I guess I'm not having any tomorrow.
I finally creeped past 264th and then things opened up. Unfortunately, I had consumed two cans of Diet Pepsi and a litre of water, so I immediately started looking for an exit, which I found in Chilliwack. I ran into the Real Canadian SuperDuperStore and marked my territory.
Then I drove to Kamloops. I'm there now, in Troy's living room, writing this entry. Bright and early tomorrow, I will jump back in the car and see if I can get home by supper.
