Date: 2005-09-29 08:47 pm (UTC)Reason 1: The people doing the research generally got into medicine to help people. That their corporate masters are soulless monsters doesn't matter. They will continue to look for a cure and they will crow from the highest mountaintop when they find one.
Reason 2: Corporations are incapable of seeing past the next quarter. If they think they can make even one extra dime over the competition with an honest-to-ghod cure for cancer, they *will* market it.
Reason 3: They can make more money off live cancer survivors then dead cancer victims. Dead people are notorious for being immune to marketing.
If you're interested in a valid argument against the pharmaceutical companies, simply compare how much they fund the study of tropical diseases vs. the study of erection enhancers.
But then, the run isn't promoted by Pfizer.
