The Sun Always Shines on TV
Mar. 16th, 2002 06:27 amI went to a taping of the Vicki Gabereau show when I was in Vancouver. It shattered all my illusions about television. Namely that it wasn't all complete bullshit.
First, if you're watching Canada AM and the anchors ask Vicki who's on the show today - She looks like she's talking directly to them, but it was actually taped three days earlier.
Next, the floor producer actually tells us when to clap, for how long and when to stop. Beatings were threatened for anyone who would not comply.
Finally, there's a trivia question for one of the guests on the show (when I was there it was a $500 dish-ware set). They pretty much tell you the answer to the absurdly easy trivia question off-camera.
Being in the studio audience consisted mostly of waiting around. Despite that, the show was a lot of fun and we got free doughnuts. Tickets were free and they tell you the guests a few weeks in advance on the website, so check it out here.
I'd do it again for a decent guest.
