We stayed in the Hotel Quartier des Spectacles (conveniently in the Quartier des Spectacles). My room was rather nice, and after we all got settled, we decided to go for a walk. About a block from the hotel, we ran into the Just For Laughs street festival, which ran for several blocks.

Funny (heh) thing about Just For Laughs, it's in July. None of us realized that. I for one thought it was in August, so happening upon it was a pleasant surprise. We spent the afternoon wandering around the street fair, watching the free performances, and enjoying some street food.

At one point we actually saw acrobatic mimes, at JFL, which has to be peak Montreal.

All we needed for the stereotype to be complete would be for them to be wearing berets

Looking at the schedule, I found out that Rachel Bloom was performing that night, so I wandered over to the venue to get last minute tickets. Her show was super funny, and included lots of novelty songs (which is a bit of her shtick). Remember earlier when I said this trip taught me lots of synonyms for semen? Well one of her songs was Meet Me Under the Cum Tree (actually the Callery pear tree). It was a marvel of comic slang.

After the show finished, I went looking for a brew pub and managed to find Benelux (Best beer: Benelux Gaia). While there, I mostly just grooved on the fact that everyone was speaking French. On that note, I know Quebec has a reputation for giving poor service to English speakers. I never encountered it once - my service ranged from perfectly ordinary to excellent.

I walked back to my room after dark. It was a great neighbourhood and time to do that in. The street festival had ended for the night, but there were still plenty of people wandering around the area. Plus it was still warm, but not stinking hot.

The next morning, we checked out of the hotel, and had some time to kill, so we went sightseeing. Wendy wanted to see Notre-Dame Basilica, so we headed that direction. That's when I found out they also have a statue of d'Artagnan!

This may be the only photographic proof that we were on a trip together.

We had crepes for brunch, because why not. Then we spotted a Ferris wheel in the distance and wandered down to check it out. There as a whole bunch of touristy stuff at the Old Port of Montreal.

Ryan and Miss K went on the Ferris wheel. Wendy and I hung out. Once they were finished, I decided to do the zip line. Not much to say about it other than that. I got hooked in, told to lie back, and was shoved off the tower. It was fun!

Not just cats get the zips

(yes, that's me)

And that was it for Montreal. I just got a taste and I was already looking forward to returning in a few days.
