Your question actually reminds me of an incident with [livejournal.com profile] garething when I was out there last. We were driving somewhere (probably back to Port Wood from the pub on the last night there). I was talking about how I was happy to meet some of his archer friends.

"It was nice meeting some of the local SCAdians. Hopefully not too many of them ask you who that jerk from Calgary was. As usual."
"I have never heard anyone say anything like that about you. Ever."
It was an instant response delivered in such a flat matter-of-fact way that I was stunned speechless briefly. The next thing out of my mouth was completely unrelated to it because there was simply nothing there to disagree with.

Is that something that anyone could do? Probably not, because G is someone I trust implicitly. Not sure how helpful this is towards an answer. It's a piece of the puzzle.
