The Best Thing the SCA Has Going For It
Dec. 3rd, 2010 01:51 pmThe people in the SCA are remarkably resilient. As anyone who's seen (locally) the evacuation of Dragonsoaker in front of an imminent flood, or (on a much larger scale) the amount of effort given towards rescuing members after Hurricane Katrina, we can organize a lot of self-less activity for a cause on fairly short notice.
I don't know what the SCA will look like in ten years, but I'm confident it will still be there.

Date: 2010-12-03 09:45 pm (UTC)The one thing that the SCA provides as a group is a large non-demoninational social group of academically inclined folks; which means for those who have jobs that move around (or can move around) a fair bit, that there is a built in set of contacts that can help you develop a social group fairly quickly. Basically if I took a job in any large city in North America - I theoretically could contact the local group and find people with whom I have at least some of the same social interests. Of course there is a bit of change of culture between kingdoms but at least there is an inital starting social circle - which gives a person a step up in managing the stress level of settling into a new place.

:P
There are days when I'm highly ammused by my dyslexia, I will have to keep demoninational in mind for the name of a cyberpunk game corperation or law firm... that's too good to no actually use somewhere.
