Imagine Papa Smurf as a sort of proctor, for instance, who tests the young males one at a time for evolutionarily sound qualities, perhaps biting the testicles off the ones who fail to make the grade, so that eventually there is only a very small pool of viable male mates for Smurfette.

He missed a vital componant. Smurfette is not a "real" smurf. She was created by Gargamell. Hmmm... perhaps he is the great creator! All hail the great Lord!
