RVM Prep Work

I was lucky enough to read conejita_diabla's journal yesterday and see that Westjet was having a seat sale for fall travel. I took advantage of this and I now have my itinerary for my Thanksgiving weekend trip to the left coast.

• I'm leaving Calgary on Friday, October 9th at 10:30am and arriving in Vancouver at 10:53am (Westjet 447).
  
• Spend Friday afternoon and evening exploring and socializing with my friends.
  
• Stay at the Holiday Inn Express at Metrotown, because it's near all the cool kids.
  
• Spend Saturday morning exploring and socializing with my friends.
  
• Catch the 2pm ferry from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay.
  
• Pick up my race package prior to 6pm. This is the only reason I'm catching such an early ferry.
  
• Make my way to the Embassy Inn which is right next to the starting line! Drop off my stuff.
  
• Explore Victoria for the remainder of the afternoon and evening. Find some carbs to eat.
  
• Try to sleep.
  
• Get up bright and early Sunday morning and run 22km.
  
• Pray for the sweet sweet release of death.
  
• Check out of the hotel.
  
• Catch the 1:35pm from Victoria and return to Calgary at 3:50pm (Westjet 212).

Incidentally, the Embassy Inn is not only the most convenient hotel, it's also $100 cheaper then all the other nearby hotels. And that includes the "special rates" that the partner hotels are giving runners. Why are they not a partner hotel themselves? All I can think of is that they're hurting the other hotels' bottom line. Is that cynical of me?

In other news, I went to TDCT today.

"Hi, I'd like to do something silly. I need to deposit this check for six cents. Then I need to pay this bill for one cent. Then, just so I'm not a total douche, I'd like to deposit $160 to my savings account."
"No problem."

It's always nice to find service staff with a sense of humour.

I'm confused - the Embassy's site says the rooms start at $176, and the race site shows their partner hotels as way cheaper than that...

Some of the partner hotels are cheaper - but they're the hotels that are at least a mile from the race site. Experience tells me that you want one as close to the start/finish line as you can get because hiking two miles after doing a race is not a good idea. That's what makes the Embassy Inn ideal.
