Good Luck Comes in Threes
Jul. 23rd, 2002 08:47 pmThis weekend saw numerous, fortunate, related events occur. It was for the movie night I had planned for Sunday night. My three miracles:
First, I phoned a bunch of people up on Saturday night to invite them, and many of them actually answered! I usually get a parade of answering machines.
Second, not only did people answer their phone, many said that they would show up!
Third, on Sunday night, many of these people actually showed up. I may have to start taking nitroglycerine pills if I keep having these shocks to my system.
OK, so I'm being a little flippant here - in fact my track record for having people show up to things I've organized has been steadily improving over the last three years from the abysmal lows I suffered previous to that. Of course, I stopped inviting Eeyore and Project K-Ko to things, so that alone would improve my odds (note to self, don't invite people who hate you - they won't show up, and if they did show up, would you like it?). I've also made the observation that if you invite people out to something that starts in ten minutes, they may not be able to make it (strangely, this doesn't seem to matter in Vancouver, where I routinely invite people to do something ten minutes prior to starting and get high turnouts).
So thanks to all who turned up, Amelie was enjoyed by all and Frequency was enjoyed by most. I also got rid of some books
While the festivities were going on, I received a phone call. Being busy at the time, I asked
garething to handle it.
So it was a pretty good evening. Many thanks to Colleen, Gareth,
wendy_licious,
wackynephews and Troy for lighting up an otherwise boring Sunday.

"Take a book before you go"Be glad it wasn't a book and a power cable.
"Do we have to?"
"YES"

"James' house of porn" said Gareth as he answered the phone. The guy came over in the middle of one of the movies, handed me $100 and took one of my junk computers. No receipt, no chit chat, no name. He just showed up and grabbed the damn thing. I wish I had more customers like that.
"Um... I'm calling about the computer you have for sale."
