This was one of the busiest trips to Vancouver I've had. Usually I have a fair amount of free time, which I spend exploring Vancouver and absorbing the sights and sounds. Not this time - the trip was remarkably dense with activities - I was happily exhausted by the time I got home.

So who or what did I do? Here is a brief synopsis:

Friday: Arrived in Vancouver to discover that no one was there to meet me. There were various excuses (no vehicle, thought I was arriving PM rather than AM, didn't read e-mail, etc.), This forced me to discover two very important things about the Vancouver B-line buses: First, sitting in the "elbow" or a two-stage bus is a very entertaining trip. Second, Ringing the bell to be let off at 64th Ave. does absolutely nothing and you will get of at 49th Avenue the way God and Coast Mountain Bus Lines want you to.

Later I met up with [livejournal.com profile] whiggy_one and [livejournal.com profile] somejauntypolka and we went to see Lilo and Stitch.

Saturday: The closest I came to an activity free day. I succeeded in poisoning [livejournal.com profile] spookiemonkie2 (it's so easy to do when dealing with people who don't have a cast-iron stomach like me) at breakfast. Afterwards [livejournal.com profile] bognaustroglum and I went to Metrotown - he attended an auction at the local Games Workshop (the fine pimps who brought you the Warhammer game) and I bought sunglasses and measuring spoons. Because you just can't buy those kinds of thing in Calgary.

Later that evening, the ladies went to a fetish ball while the guys stayed home and watched Orange County and A Knight's Tale. I jinxed Jen by telling her she would have "a fantastically enjoyable good time".

Sunday: Shopping! The Comic Shop, the Candy Aisle, Zulu Records, Imperial Hobbies and Home Hardware. Because you just can't buy those kinds of thing in Calgary. Rented Bandits. Ran 9 Km.

Monday: Happy Canada Day! Had a picnic on Jericho beach (literally on the beach, with sand and everything) with the Moleski clan, which is always entertaining. Plus they always feed me steak. Afterwards got together with [livejournal.com profile] zapgun4hire, [livejournal.com profile] chris9871, [livejournal.com profile] bognaustroglum and John and we got to discussing potential terrorist attacks on the US over July 4th. We decided to bet on the outcome - namely the number of fatalities due to terrorist attacks on US soil. I blame the lack of women at the dinner table for our ghoulish disregard for propriety. Note: I very optimistically choose zero. Sadly I lost. Later we made the acquaintance of both the werewolves and the spirits of Central Park.

"Tell us your great wisdom oh spirit of the park."
"You bunch are scaring people, if you don't knock off this spirit crap, I'll have to arrest you."
"Thank you spir- ahem - officer."

Tuesday: Found the two soundtracks I've hunted all over for: The Brotherhood of the Wolf and American McGee's Alice. The Virgin Superstore always has the hard to get items (which is good because you'd never want to buy anything easy to find there), though they were once again sold out of virgins. Strange that. Ran 8 Km.

Wednesday: Went back to Zulu records and went completely mental buying stuff. Saw Men In Black II. Went to Theater Sports (which was mediocre - next time I'll go on a Saturday and stick around for the late show). Discovered a great restaurant on Granville Island called Samuel J. Pepper's. The food was decent, but the restaurant engaged in decidedly discriminatory hiring practices. I was outraged. In fact I fully intend on going back there, often, to continue being outraged. To top it all off, I acted like a complete 'tard around our server, Jade.

"And how is your meal?"
"BOOMERS, BLOOPERS, BLESSERS, BOSOMS!"

Thursday: Had my one and only wander of the trip, discovering that there are more sex shops on Granville between Davies and Nelson than in the entire city of Calgary. It would be impressive if they weren't so sleazy.

Got together with a bunch of folks at The Clubhouse, namely [livejournal.com profile] chris9871, [livejournal.com profile] zapgun4hire, [livejournal.com profile] somejauntypolka, [livejournal.com profile] bognaustroglum, [livejournal.com profile] whiggy_one, Jen and Emma. Emma drew a picture of me . Note the two squiggly things on either side of my head - these are my guardian spirits. Or so Emma tells me (with appropriate toddler to grown-up translation by Jen. After dinner, [livejournal.com profile] somejauntypolka was kind enough to accompany me to Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, which was a lot of fun. Ran 7 Km - [livejournal.com profile] kermie_canada says it's a good thing I didn't stay much longer than I did, given the trend, I'd stop jogging altogether in about two more weeks.

Friday: Saw Minority Report. Took another hair-raising bus ride to the airport and then flew home. Calgary must have missed me - the plane circled the city once while fireworks went off in my honor around Stampede park.

I am already counting the days until my next trip out. It will be at the end of August or the end of November. It all depends on whether I can persuade assorted Calgary people to go to Vancouver, or Vancouver people to come to Calgary. Negotiations continue.

Sounds like a great trip right, so why only a seven? I reserve one point for finding true love and one point for nudity (my true love in the nude would therefore be worth +2). The final point was lost because I didn't see either Lou or Mark while I was out there. I blame myself - I completely forgot to call them. Sorry lads, I'll catch you next time.
