On the Appropriateness of Targets

jamesqArchery was entertaining this week, even thought I didn't actually do anything other than socialize. I had a crick in my neck that made it sore to turn my head all the way to the left (which is the direction I aim). It was also odd that many SCAdians weren't in attendance (there was a camping event this weekend called Coronet - I assume someone gets crowned there but what the hell do I know about SCA politics. All I care about is they're fun people to hang around with).
Anyway, it was Garething, Troy and I, plus two straggling SCAdians - Mike and Alyssa (sp?).
The first important thing about archery practice is that Troy is a better shot than I am, despite been even less experienced (argh). The second (and more important) thing to know is that the SCAdians like to use strange objects for target practice. Generally this means shattering AOL CDs, but sometimes the target is truly apt.
This week, Alyssa brought a plush Barney the Dinosaur.
Its densely evil frame resisted the gently caress of the arrows. Until Mike shot at it that is. I'm not sure what the poundage of his bow is, but I imagine it's quite a bit more than anyone else was shooting - he repeatedly skewered the evil little imp - and showed a nasty tendency to get it's left femoral artery (4 times).
From the front, the purple monstrosity looked OK - there were only slight blemishes caused by the puncture wounds. From the back it was a different story. White plushy filler was trailing out of huge exit wounds.
My only regret was that I didn't bring my camera. Alyssa is bringing the doll back next week. I'll be there with my camera. Hopefully there will be many archers willing to make it sprout arrows. Stay posted for updates and pictures.
