My inheritance check finally cleared last Wednesday. I'd rather have the old man back, but since I can't have that I'll take some cash. I've had big plans for this money.

In my continuing efforts to convince everyone around me that I'm a grown-up, I've resolved to spend most of the money on sensible, grown-up things. I therefore went to the bank and slapped a big lump-sum payment down on my mortgage and also cleared the balance on my line of credit.

All of this was so that I could buy my new laptop (a shiny new Apple iBook) with a clear conscious.

Now in the lead up to this event I've been coveting the laptop at the U of C's Microstore. Every week after I'd buy my funny books, I'd stop in and see that they still had some (they sat in a display at the back of the store). There it sat, every week, along with the rest of the new Apples.

Having made my bank payments I was now free to get the iBook. I headed up to the Microstore and found pile of new Apples gone. Talking to the apathetic staff I discovered that they were sold out and weren't expecting any new product in for several weeks. So I couldn't buy it that day.

Friday rolls around and I go on a trip to get my iBook and a bunch of accessories for it. I choose the route to minimize the amount of stuff I would be carrying. First stop was Future Shop where I bought a wireless mouse. Next, back to the Microstore to get Airport Express (it was $10 cheaper there) and an Applecare warranty (Being an occasional reader of [livejournal.com profile] hawkstone's LJ - and his constant back and forth trips to the Apple Service Center, I knew this was a good idea). I very nearly bought an Mini iPod, but decided to hold off (I'm glad I did).

Then I went to Memory Express and picked up the memory card I would need (it was wee), bringing my laptop up to an acceptable amount of RAM. I also took a side trip to Costco - which I've discovered is the Anti-Wal-Mart, making it morally acceptable for me to shop there. Unfortunately, this means Costco's days are numbered)

Back to my story. I went down to MyMacDealer to pick up the star of the show - the laptop itself. There I encountered the pushy, halitosis-ridden staff. The iBook I wanted was sold out everywhere, including MyMacDealer.

So I've got everything for my iBook, except my iBook. There's a lesson in there somewhere (possibly "phone first you moron").

I finally just bought the damn thing from the online Apple Store. I was notified that it had shipped this morning. Possibly I'll get it before my trip to Vancouver. Possibly not.

I did get a nifty iPod though, so the trip wasn't a complete loss.
