One More Thing...
Dec. 8th, 2008 12:41 pmWell, two more actually.
When I hear the local rednecks universally holding a certain position, my knee-jerk reaction is that the opposite must be the reasonable thing to do. Hence why I'm warming up to the coalition.
Also, Alberta does itself no favours with its demonizing of the Liberals and New Democrats. It's not like you're giving them a reason to listen to you when they're in power.

Date: 2008-12-08 08:54 pm (UTC)I have one question, though. How do you answer the accusation that such a government would have put "traitors to the nation" in charge? I find it a laughable claim, but wanted to hear how you'd put it.

Date: 2008-12-08 11:45 pm (UTC)I disagree with the BQ, but I understand them. They've been elected on a platform of looking out for Quebec's interests and they do a remarkably good job of it. Frankly, the whole "they're working with the BQ so they're all traitors" strikes me as sour grapes. The CPC was perfectly willing to work with them to bring down the Martin Liberals just a few years ago.
Besides which, the BQ are working within the system. Even if they are still gung ho for an independent Quebec nation, they're going after it in a perfectly legitimate way. I might not like it and think trying to get out of Canada is foolish because, well, we're just so damn cool, but they're not shooting people or selling military secrets to the Huns. They're not traitors - the CPC just differs from them ideologically.
An alternate source of this whole "traitor" thing is that people didn't elect Dion (or whoever ends up being the Liberal party interim leader) to be PM. To which I say, we didn't elect Stephen Harper to be PM either, the CPC did. The only vote he won in the last federal election was to represent the constituents of Calgary-South West. That he gets to be PM now is a combination of tradition and party policy.
So basically they're both just bogus Conservative talking points.
