More Serious Now
May. 27th, 2008 10:08 pmSo we were talking about upcoming activities that we're going to be doing this summer. The first was the next Quad War work week and the second was the baronial garage sale. We got some sniffing and tsk-tsk-ing over the dates of both of those.
The Quad War work weekend is going to be at the same time as the upcoming T&A war (That's for Tir Righ and Avacal folks and not anything your dirty little minds came up with instead). We were basically admonished for not supporting the Principality.
As I pointed out, we had planned this work weekend last year, well before the T&A war was even announced as a possibility, much less a done deal with an actual date and everything. Time off was booked and really, there's a shortage of weeks before Quad War and we have to get the damn site prepped sometime.
And you know what? I really do hope that T&A war is a success. It would be great to have another biggish event to go to in the summer, and I'd love to meet people outside Avacal. It's going to have to wait until next year for me personally though.
But still, we were told that "people" were "saying we didn't really support the principality". My response then and now was bring it - if you've got a problem with my volunteering a weekend to bust my ass to make Quad War a better event, come and talk to me directly.
I also volunteered my garage for the upcoming sale - proceeds to go to (again) Quad War. Except that the weekend we picked is the same as Coronation. We were again admonished for holding an event opposite Coronation.
Well, it's not exactly an event is it? Also Coronation is in Kennewick, WA! A not insignificant distance. Anyone planning on going to Coronation anyway, would not be swayed to stay home by the fact that I'm holding a garage sale. I mean come on!
But still, we got the silent "I'm not going to argue, but I still know I'm right" stare. Sigh.
Once more people, nobody (excepting a handful of royals and champions) is obligated to go to any event. If I were holding a private garage sale, or maintaining a private campground, or sitting on my ass, it wouldn't have come up, regardless of the weekend. But because I'm trying to do something for the game, I'm getting the stink eye. Kee-rist.
