Annual Vacation Dilemma
Feb. 5th, 2015 09:30 pmIt's February and I need to burn off four days of vacation before the end of March, lest I lose them. I can make it a whole week if I choose wisely.
And again, I see that my company's financial year is damned inconvenient for the vacationing - there's nowhere nearby to go that isn't still in the midst of the North American winter. I've been in this situation before, and all the same objections then are in force now. Still, I have a few options:
Keep it close to home? I could, for example, simply spend a few days in Banff.
San Diego? Never been there. Kind of close.
San Francisco? Been there the last two years. Wouldn't want to go by myself this close to previous trips.
Las Vegas? Maybe if I got a cheap trip, but not for more than three nights.
Sun destination? Boring unless I do a lot of excursions.
Some things I've ruled out:
A cruise. Despite having a friend working on a cruise ship (I do that one, but what's the point if I never get to see her). The big problem here is that I'd have to go to Florida. The cruise ships don't come up the West Coast until summer.
London. A little far, but some friends just did it in five days over the holidays, so it's not impossible. This got rejected mostly because I'm quasi-planning to go in May or June.
Japan. I seriously considered this one evening (even went and bought the Frommer's guide for research. A little outside my comfort zone for a quick solo trip. Also, I couldn't get tickets to the Ghibli museum for the relevant dates. Still, it would have been fun to do and keep it a secret until I actually left.
Oh well, as long as I go somewhere. A week at home would give me cabin fever.
