Drunken Ramblings in Slow Motion.
Nov. 25th, 2009 12:42 amI'm going to take this slow on account of I'm drunk again, but I don't want this to be my usual drunken rambling post - I fear that may get old if I overdo it. I am far more loaded then I was on Saturday though.
The vacation did not start on time. I was ready to leave work when a colleague came to see me with a fairly big bug in the software I wrote. This software is a library that is used by almost every program we right. Unfortunately, it writes out 32-bit unsigned data and one of the applications only handles unsigned data. (If you're not a computer person, it's OK if you don't understand that - just assume that large positive numbers in my library are treated like negative numbers in the application). I had to quickly come up with a solution for this and publish it for six different platforms. This I did, but it meant leaving later then I anticipated.
conejita_diabla and I left together, heading to her apartment to drop off her stuff then heading down to the Hop in Brew for a wee celebration with friends. We ran into a spot of traffic in the way that made us later still - 14th street was backed up to the top of the hill and it took us ten minutes to get to 5th Avenue. We opted (due to other traffic) to not head down 10th street and finally went back up 10th street to 12th avenue north, over to Center street, south into downtown and then into the pub.
Between bugs and traffic, we were 50 minutes late. Ugh.
Got to the pub to find
oblivions,
bow_bitch and
othelianna (along with the LJ-less DJ and BI) waiting for us. Eventually
halfdane866 joined us.
And it was a nice couple of hours at the pub, with good food, good beer and good conversations all along. There was laughs, politics, gossip and philosophy. Eventually just
othelianna and
halfdane866 were left, so we caught the train home. Should have grabbed a cab.
Rosie and I reached Dalhousie station and caught a feeder bus. She wished me a happy birthday as she left and I pointed out that my birth day wasn't for another three minutes. This is important because a few steps later the last guy on the bus (other then me) got off one stop before me and wished me a happy birthday - 10 seconds into my birthday. Woot!
I think I'll skip the alcohol tomorrow. No need to get loaded every night, plus doing it too often leads to depression and I'm too happy to want that right now. Cheesecake Cafe tomorrow night everyone. No booze for me means more booze for all of you.
I had a great time tonight. I only wish I could do it more often.
