Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam...Ian and Jenny got married on Saturday. I was tapped to provide music about a week ago and my understanding was that they just wanted a random bunch of eighties music for the reception. I discovered Friday night (when testing the sound system) that I needed to provide specific pieces of music for the ceremony too. Whoops.
I rushed home after archery and found as many of the songs as I could. Got to the wedding and rushed around to set things up, finishing moments before the ceremony was to start.
From the back (I was backstage-right) it looked like an awesome ceremony. The bride and groom looked deeply in each others eyes with an intensity of love and admiration that I can only imagine occurring to me in my wildest dreams. Pretty much everything went off without a hitch. It helps that the lucky couple knows how to work a crowd.
Later, we settled into socializing, dinner and dancing. I was dragged off to dance three times and on each occasion I actually had fun. I'm not sure why, because every other time I've been dragged onto a dance floor I've been filled with anxiety to the point of panic combined with the certain feeling that I look stupid. Not this time though. When I can put my finger on what was different, I just might dance some more. If only they had courses in this dancing phenomenon.
I had a great time. It was exactly like an SCA event, only with all the bullshit removed. No anxiety-raising competitions. No politics. Just a great get-together with lots of fun people.
I think Ian and Jenny should get married again next year.
