Strange Archery Convergence
Nov. 7th, 2008 01:53 pmLast week I shot for the first time since my shoulder got busted. Got a 66 on my royal round, which would be the worst I've shot all season. As luck would have it, last Friday was also the last day of the season. Time to get out there are regain "Master Archer" status (80+ average) and climb those last few points to "Archery Grandmaster" (100+). Both DJ and Al (the range owner) have offered to coach me!
I've been seeing a lot of interest in archery from unexpected quarters recently. First was from ML, a friend of
sagaciouslu's. Today I was approached by a CA, a coworker, who wanted to give it a try. At lunch another coworker mentioned that his daughter (who's fairly interested in the SCA in general) and her friends wanted to try out archery.
So there's a chance that a large group of noobs will decend on the range, and being the person with the closest connection to all of them, I'll get tapped to teach. It's all good though becuase teaching can be fun. I'll wear a mortarboard and yell "How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat!"
Finally, chatting with
oblivions last night I mentioned that I had invited random Borealis archers to come down to tonight's practice.
Tonight I'll pick up the bow again and see if I can remember how to shoot.

"I'm not sure why she wants to get into archery of all things?"I gave him some information about times and dates (such as the SCA Lady's Night on Wednesdays, which may be less intimidating).
"It's because archers are the coolest."

"You've inviting the enemy down here?", she said with mock surprise.A few weeks ago, BN was down from Borealis and he actually won the Fish, which means we've spread the fun to Borealis. Also, we've managed to ditch the ugly fish. Yippee! Now to get the original fish off of ES, thus giving us an excuse to not have to retreive it from the Borealans.
"Silly, you should know by now that the enemy of Montengarde archers isn't Borealis archers - it's heavy fighters, regardless of branch, including Montengarde"
