Musing on Running, Running While Musing
Nov. 3rd, 2008 08:42 amI had a very early start today, actually awaking before my alarm went off. Of course, this was largely due the yesterday's crash and burn. Given that I woke up late, went to bed early and had a four hour nap in the middle of the afternoon, I think I was awake for a grand total of six hours yesterday. But damn I needed it. The post-40 era really sucks.
Saturday night's party went very late - we played Rock Band 2 until the not-so wee hours. We played until 3:30 am. Think about that for a minute. We played until 3:30 am on the night you turn your clocks back one hour. Yeah, we were up quite late.
Woke up late Sunday feeling tired, cranky, sore and sick. It was all the physical symptoms of a severe depression, without any of the mental symptoms. This is good because sleep fixes physical symptoms, whereas is sometimes takes days or weeks to fix the mental ones. I felt myself slipping a few times, but put it behind me fairly easily. A quick acknowledgment and then I moved on, exactly the way I'd like to be able to do it all the time.
I cleaned up the house. Mostly this was just a post party cleanup - collecting empties, throwing away stale food, cleaning used dishes. Fairly easy, and now the house is actually clean and not cluttered for the first time since
kermie_canada and
spookiemonkie2 lived here. Next big job, cleaning the garage sufficiently to park the car - I'd like to get this done in the next two nights, since we're expecting flurries on Wednesday. First snow not until November 5th? That's a pretty good run for Cowtown.
After cleaning up, I went for a walk to the book store. I was going to continue walking to Superstore, just to get a nice long urban hike in, but quickly became fatigued so I turned back home. Played a little Star Wars on the console and then had a long nap. I woke up around 8, had supper and went back to bed.
This morning it was dark when I got up. I've got another six months of cold, dark morning runs ahead of me (not that it was cold this morning). For now though, the climate is perfect. Anything between about 0 and ten degrees is OK by me. The sun came up while I was running, which made for a nice ending. There were also very few people, dogs and cars which suits me fine.
It was a nice pleasant run. I was alone with my thoughts and the running (such as it was since I'm still in the early stages of injury recovery) came easily. I was worried, after yesterday's troubles, that I'd bonk.
I'd better enjoy it while I can. Soon it will be too cold to run outside and I'll have to start using Olympic Oval during my lunch breaks.
