Important Message For Local SCAdians
May. 8th, 2007 07:18 amTavern is coming up next week (Thursday, May 24th) and that will mark the one year anniversary of my winning the coveted Minotaur's Ninny.
When I gained this noble prize I was charged with holding a contest in a year's time to find my successor. Those of you who were at last year's May tavern will remember that I won the prize by having the tackiest garb in Montengarde (and let me once again thank Lady Taeha the Wanderer for all her help - working with the fabric I provided was no doubt headache-inducing and risky to her sanity). This year will *not* be tacky garb - it will be for the tackiest weapon.
My inspiration for this was twofold and occurred at Winter War up in Borealis. First, I saw one of the armoured fighters wielding a great big fish instead of a sword. (I think he also had a shield saying "Ask me about the fish" - I sadly didn't have the opportunity to ask, so I don't know what was up with that. I suspect squire-hazing though). Second, part of the archery tournament included shooting a teddy bear with toy bows and suction-cup arrows.
I'd like to see really silly weapons next week. They can be for any of the SCA's martial arts - heavy, rapier, archery, heck bring along a siege weapon or two if you're really ambitious. All I ask is that you have a good time making and presenting it.
