Note to self, don't hike from one end of Victoria to the other wearing a 20 pound backpack - you will feel it the next morning.

My adventures in Vic continued. I went to Craigdarroch Castle, which was a nice place to visit finally. The backstory of the Dunsmuir family who bought it was weird though - A huge initial wealth that was eventually pissed away by tragedy and bad mistakes. The building itself has an interesting history. Ironically that history has been halted by the very society that wishes to preserve it. No more interesting things will occur there, so long as the building is a museum. In the past is was an opulent dwelling, abandoned, a hospital, a college and a dance academy. I'm a little sad by that, in the same way that people who save every book they've ever owned make me sad. Many of those books will never be read again, which is probably not what the authors intended. Likewise, the castle really should be occupied by someone who will use it, rather then store it under glass.

Eventually I found my way to the ferry terminal, just in time to take the last ferry into Vancouver. While on the ferry I discovered that Pacific Coach Lines will drive you into downtown Vancouver for a mere twelve dollars, in about an hour. That's a helluva lot better then either a cab ($70) or Vancouver Transit (2-3 hours).

My seat mates for the journey were two high school seniors who were drunk out of their minds and off to, "tear up downtown Vancouver". Presumably by drinking and dancing at the clubs. It made for some amusing eavesdropping.

I'm currently staying at the Ramada, which is just a wee bit south of Granville and Davies. A coupon I found on the ferry is giving me a big chunk off the rack rate - I'm paying $60/night for the next four nights, which is damn good (Ironically, it's a better room then I could get in Saskatoon last weekend for less money). I'd been up and exercising for a good 20 hours at this point so I hit the bed like a comet and only just woke up after a good 10 hours of sleep. I'm stiff and sore, but that's nothing that a little stretching and a 40 minute run along the seawall can't fix.

I wasn't going to run this trip (because I wanted to pack light and bringing my running shoes doesn't help that), but after putting on three pounds after last week, I felt I really shouldn't slack off any more. Snacking while driving to 'toon town, a big damn feast, not journalling last week and skipping a few runs - it all adds up to pounds around the middle. I'm really close to goal. I don't want to fuck it up this time.

Ok, no more writing, time to run!

Jason,

I can make a 40 yard shot no problem. A 1,155,950 yard shot is a little more difficult. Thus, I'll see you next week for some shooty goodness.
