I had a great time. Though I would do a few things different.

First, I'd have slept in more. I had enough time for a nice leisurely breakfast at the Galaxy Diner and still arrived at the archery range an hour early.

Archery was fun, [livejournal.com profile] garething writes about it here and here. I came in second (first in advanced) but [livejournal.com profile] kalchak (an indermediate) beat me. Still, considering how badly I thought I'd shot, I think I did very well.

After the tournament, I hung around to marshall some royal rounds. I didn't need to because Litton also did so. It was nice hanging it with some of the Borealis archers. Aedelred, Morrigan, Litton, and I all shot. There was one other, whose name I've forgotten, unless the name was Alickina, in which case I didn't forget.

I got to the event site in time to pay for my feast and watch the early court. The change over was a bit of inspired theatre. The Tanist and the Prince dice gambling and the Tanist slowly "won" all the retinue, guards, baronies and finally the Coronet itself. Comedy gold.

The last time I saw this sort of theatre I almost blew it by not understanding. It was an August Investiture a couple of years back and the Prince slowly sent all of his men to shut up a group of rowdy carousers who were drowning out court (losing them in the process). I was seconds away from standing up and yelling "STFU you assholes, can't you see that court is going on!" before I realized that the whole thing was staged. I'm glad I didn't speak up. That sort of faux pas tends to develop a life of its own.

Our new Prince and Princess? That would be [livejournal.com profile] bork107 and [livejournal.com profile] justgemma17.

Afterwards I watched the rapier tournament. It was fun. Bobby Gunn and [livejournal.com profile] speed_ball_boy did very well and were entertaining to watch. My favorite though was a petite woman in green and black. She was very graceful and had a nice figure (which was all you could make out as there was not a single inch of exposed skin on her). When she was killed she would sort of wilt like a dying ballerina. Certainly the most graceful deaths I've ever seen in a tournament. Later I saw her out of her rapier gear and in normal garb. She looked about 13 which shocked the hell out of me (and also made me wash my mind out with soap). She probably wasn't that young as I think you need to be an adult to compete in the contact martial arts in the society.

Feast was very good and very French, making this the first "period" feast we've had in awhile. [livejournal.com profile] wackynephews and [livejournal.com profile] wendy_licious are the ones responsible for my not going to Vancouver for another month. Damn I ate a lot this weekend.

Rounding out the pleasant food was some plesant company. The afformentioned Litton and Aedelred were there as was the lovely [livejournal.com profile] blue_flydragon and [livejournal.com profile] conejita_diabla.

Evening court was good. I won a Japanese tea set for my archery prowess. Litton also recived a set due to her help during the contest. She loves archery but can't shoot anymore due to an injury. This doesn't stop her from putting on contests and helping out at other contests. She certainly deserves some recognition.

The evening was rounded out with much wonderful socializing. As is becoming usual, I didn't have time to talk to everyone I knew. Sadly, as is also usual, I didn't have the nerve to talk to all the women I wanted to. Oh well.

I went home and passed out. It was a damn good event.

So was it really [livejournal.com profile] wackynephews and [livejournal.com profile] wendy_licious' fault that I'm going to gain weight at Thursday's weight-in? Of course not, especially when you consider:
  1. The Montreal Smoked Meat Omelette I had at the Galaxy Diner was not part of the feast.
  2. The candy bar I ate and the slice of cheescake I ate weren't part of the feast.
  3. The bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and pancake I had Sunday aternoon weren't part of the feast.
  4. The milkshake I had Sunday wasn't part of the feast.
I ate like a hog this weekend. Nobodies fault but my own. And now the weekend is over and I'm back on the wagon. Counting my points, journalling and exercising - that's what I'm doing for the rest of the week.

And hey, I was only bad two days, maybe I can still sneak that .4 pounds I need.

;)
